R&B songstress Mary J. Blige is taking her vocals to the big screen as legendary jazz/soul singer Nina Simone in an upcoming biopic. The film, tentatively titled Nina, will focus on Simone’s relationship with her assistant Clifton Henderson and begin shooting this September in France. It’ll be the first lead role in a movie for Blige, who most recently starred in Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself with Taraji P. Henson. We can’t wait to hear Mary J. lend her powerful voice to Simone’s soulful songbook!

Heather Hedley would have been a better choice to play Nina Simone than Mary J Blidhe.
