Lea Michele’s Brand New Bangs

Apr 29, 2010 @ 5:43 pm

Last week we reported on Glee star Lea Michele’s bold new bangs (inset) and today we got the exclusive scoop from her stylist— they were actually faux! “Because she was shooting Glee, we couldn’t give her bangs until now,” explained the star’s stylist, Mark Townsend.  “Lea loves to play around with different hair looks and we’ve used clip-in bangs on shoots and red carpet appearances before.” When she was finally ready to make the cut, Townsend finessed the look to Michele’s liking. “She knew exactly the fringe she wanted: Longer on the sides, but eyelash grazing and right between the brow and the eyelash in the middle,” he said. Of course, a new cut also requires an update styling routine. “I blew the bangs smooth and dry with a flat brush, but used a round brush and a dab of Dove Frizz Control Taming Cream through the length.” We love her new look. Tell us how you feel in the comments below!

Marc Jacobs Named Most Influential Designer

Apr 29, 2010 @ 12:56 pm

Marc Jacobs landed a coveted spot on Time magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. His friend Victoria Beckham, who once starred in his ad campaigns, had the honor of toasting Jacobs—the only fashion designer to make the list—in the issue. “His passion for popular culture infuses his designs with irreverence, color and energy. It’s what sets him far ahead of his peers,” Beckham wrote. “You can always tell when someone is wearing Marc Jacobs.” Artists and entertainers also featured on Time‘s list include Lady Gaga, Robert Pattinson, Sandra Bullock and Glee‘s Lea Michele. The Time 100 issue hits newsstands today.

In honor of the upcoming American Woman-themed Met Gala, all-American retailer Gap (who is sponsoring the event) asked four top designers to create original red carpet gowns for some of the celebrity attendees. So who gets to wear these custom creations? Jessica Alba and Vera Farmiga will wear Sophie Theallet for Gap; Zoe Kravitz and MIA will wear Alexander Wang for Gap; Kirsten Dunst and Jamie Bochert will wear Rodarte for Gap; and Kerry Washington and Riley Keough will wear Thakoon for Gap. “It’s been thrilling to watch some of today’s greatest design talent as they prepare their interpretation of today’s modern American woman,” said Patrick Robinson, event co-chair and head of Gap Global design. The unique gowns will be auctioned off from May 4-31 at gap.com/gownauction (all proceeds will benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art) and on display at Gap’s Fifth Avenue pop-up shop. Also available at the special store will be limited-edition T-shirts ($35-$45) inspired by the themes of the exhibit: The Heiress, The Gibson Girl, The Haute Bohemian, The Suffragist, The Patriot, The Flapper and The Screen Siren.
