Flatter Your Figure With Color

Apr 20, 2010 @ 6:33 pm

Colorful pieces will not only brighten your wardrobe, they can also flatter your shape. Whether you want to accentuate those curves or look slimmer, here are three easy ways you can use color to play up your best assets. For a highlighted waist, pair an LBD with a bright belt like Gabrielle Union. The bold color against a dark backdrop draws eyes to the narrowest part of your midsection. Want to elongate your legs? Place the belt a little bit higher on your waist. For more hot color tips, check out the April issue of InStyle, on newsstands now—and click on for the other two tips to flatter your figure with color.

Dolce & Gabbana‘s stunning floral sheaths appeared on the red carpet three times this week! Yesterday at the 2010 Matrix Awards in N.Y.C., Sheryl Crow paired her boatneck sheath with a gold clutch and round-toe pumps, while Tina Fey wore the V-neck version with a cropped black jacket. Fergie attended a Red Cross fundraising gala in L.A. over the weekend wearing the design duo’s silk ruched minidress in the same colorful fabric, which she rocked with a Louis Vuitton Motard minaudiere and satin Safra pumps from her own shoe line. Spring style is definitely in bloom!

It’s every bride-to-be’s dream come true—Vera Wang is partnering with David’s Bridal on a new collection of gorgeous and affordable wedding gowns. I’ve been doing this for 20 years in September…what is the point if I can’t share all this work [via] a brand that is reliable and credible to people,” Wang told WWD.  The 20-gown collection hits David’s Bridal stores in Spring 2011.

Lea & Zoe Share Their Moms’ Recipes

Apr 20, 2010 @ 11:30 am

Want to impress your mom this Mother’s Day? Make her a delicious meal loved by the stars and their moms! Glee‘s Lea Michele shares her mom Edith’s recipe for vegetable lasagne roll-ups in the latest issue of InStyle. “I’m part of a traditional Italian family, so when I became a vegan, my mother learned how to make a version of lasagne I could still enjoy,” Lea told us. “The idea of possibly going through the rest of my life without eating it was very upsetting!” For Zoe Saldana, food helped establish a bond with her mom, Asalia. “When I was a kid, my mother, my sisters and I would all hang out together…and talk and eat for hours—we’d call it caja de gatos ['box of kittens'],” The Losers star told us. “The good thing about being older is that there’s wine!” Watch our behind-the-scenes video of Lea and her mom at work in the kitchen and for the yummy (and healthy!) lasagne dish, check out the May issue of InStyle, out on newsstands Friday. Plus, get two extra recipes from Zoe’s mom after the jump!

With her gorgeous blond hair, feminine curves and sexy voice, one might expect Scarlett Johansson to be the perfect ringleader for the young Hollywood scene, but the truth is she’s a homebody (and homemaker!). “You’re not going to find me at 4 a.m. hitting up the club, bottle full of bub…Maybe on a rare occasion. But I’ve just never been much of a clubby, nightlife kind of person,” she tells InStyle. “I’m not a social butterfly. I’ve never been part of a scandal that was really juicy.” She’d much prefer to snuggle up on the couch with hubby Ryan Reynolds after trying her hand at cooking a hearty turkey Bolognese (yum!). For more of our exclusive interview with Scarlett, pick up the May issue of InStyle, on newsstands this Friday!
