New label Penumbra, the brainchild of formers fashion editors Courtney Bennett and Stephanie Giorgio, is tackling the challenges of effortless, day to night style. “[Penumbra] really came about when we were both trying to find simple, unadorned clothing to enhance our accessories. We love the idea of traveling easy as well as going from day to night,” Bennett told us, and their cowl back maxi dress ($262) does just that!  “It is such a versatile style,” says Bennett. “I have worn it to the beach over a bathing suit and to a wedding!” It comes in three neutral colors—gray, black and navy—and drapes perfectly over the hips for a style that is flattering on every body type. Wear it with bold bangles and platforms for a dressy look or show off its simplicity with casual flats and a slouchy bag. Shop all the versatile styles at singer22.com.

For every body type?? Come on. How on earth do you wear a bra with that?

Every body type? Not a body with breasts!

@Sara – there are bras that you can wear to allow you to wear backless dresses. Skeptical right? but trust me, i have one, it stayed on all night, i love it. http://www.mylittlesecrets.ca/collections/beauty/products/improved-nu-bra-invisible-bra

Oh please? The back well, my son would use to dunk his chocolate wrappers in!! and grey for Spring??!!! How dull!

-Vanessa Muller on April 11th, 2010

I wouldn’t think anyone with hips bigger than 26″ could wear this dress, either. And Vanessa Muller is right — grey for spring is DULL DULL DULL!! [Black and navy aren't exactly spring colors in my mind, either ...]
And perhaps someone with breasts that are less than a C cup could wear this, but anything bigger than that would look pretty tacky.
