Rowley’s Surf-Inspired Line For Roxy

What happens when you combine Cynthia Rowley‘s feminine frocks with Roxy’s sporty and chic swimwear? You get a stylish surfer’s dream collaboration! Rowley’s first collection for Roxy (she’ll design three in total) was an ode to her favorite hobby. “I’ve been addicted to surfing for the last 10 years. During the summer, I go every weekend out in Montauk,” she told us. “Board shorts and wet suits are what [Roxy] does best and I wanted to put more fashion into my favorite pastime.” For avid surfers, there’s a pastel-colored neoprene wetsuit (pictured), which Rowley tested herself, and matching swimsuits to wear underneath. Can’t hang ten? You can still make waves in the carve dress, which is made from the wetsuit’s lightweight material and even includes a handy pull-string on the back zipper. Dr. Martens Turns 50

Apr 5, 2010 @ 5:05 pm

Dr. Martens, the utility boot brand that became emblematic of  ’90s grunge, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the brand will issue limited-edition runs of its iconic lace-up “1460″ style (pictured) as well as the low-top “1461″ version. They’ve also enlisted 10 indie music artists, from The Noisettes to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, to record classic covers that embody Dr. Martens’ tough-as-nails spirit. We hold fond memories of rocking Docs with floral-print dresses while watching My So-Called Life, so we love that young fashionistas like Emma Roberts have embraced the shoes, creating sophisticated looks all their own.

Apr 5, 2010 @ 4:50 pm

There’s a new look taking to the streets of Hollywood—socks with heels! From Rihanna to Leighton Meester, celebrities are stepping out in the geek-chic look. The trend trickled down from the runway, where it was seen at Burberry, Christian Dior and Prada’s spring shows, and it’s also made its way into a recent J.Crew catalog. We haven’t seen this many sock hoppers since the ’50s, when bobby socks and poodle skirts were de rigeur. Can you master this fashion feet, er, feat? The trick of the trade is all in the mix. Make sure your socks aren’t too bulky and your shoes aren’t too fancy. Keep it casual and fun!

With two small children and a packed schedule, it’s easy to wonder how Jennifer Garner maintains her incredible physique. Turns out, her secret weapon is now available online! Garner recently demonstrated the ValSlide on Ellen Degeneres’s show—in sky-high heels!  Created by her longtime trainer, Valerie Waters, the ValSlide forces intense muscle engagement through stabilization, or as Garner explained, makes simple exercises like lunges “harder and better.” “I needed something that was portable and super-efficient,” says Waters, who uses it with her star clients like Garner, Kim Raver and Rachel Nichols.  She also told us the best feature is the fast results. “You’ll feel a difference the first time you use them, whether you’re a beginner or a professional athlete.”  If you’re dying to get toned abs and beach-ready legs like Garner‘s, try adding 15 minutes of ValSlide exercises to your regular fitness routine. Our Favorite iPad Style Apps

Apr 5, 2010 @ 11:34 am

Apple’s gadget du jour, the iPad, landed in stores on Saturday and if you were lucky enough to snag one, there are some fun fashion applications ready for download! On the top of our must-have list is Gilt Groupe’s shopping application, a super intuitive app that allows you to jump from sale to sale in one easy touch as well as drag and drop items into your shopping cart. Plus, if you’re not already a member, Gilt is giving a $10 credit to the first 10,000 new customers who download the app. We’re also loving The Sartorialist app, which is a great for flipping through Scott Schuman’s chic snapshots, and Gap’s 1969 Stream, where you can put together looks, view video and of course, buy your favorite Gap jeans.
