First Look: Nicole Richie’s Fall Collection For Winter Kate

Apr 2, 2010 @ 6:30 pm

We have the first photos of Nicole Richie‘s Fall 2010 collection for Winter Kate, and the pieces could not be more chic! After the line debuted this season with looks that showcased her signature bohemian style, the mother of two decided to go darker and sleeker for fall. “My main source of inspiration was this movie called From Hell,” Richie told us. “It’s about the free masons and Jack the Ripper so it’s definitely about that time [period]. We have capes and cigarette pants, vests, jackets and blazers. There are cleaner lines and it’s a lot more simple.” Fans of Richie’s breezy dresses need not worry—she remained true to her style with a few flowing frocks. We can’t wait until this collection hits stores! Click on the gallery for more pictures of Winter Kate’s Fall 2010 collection.

New Halston Documentary To Premiere At Tribeca Film Festival

Apr 2, 2010 @ 12:40 pm

This year’s Tribeca Film Festival promises to be packed with style! Not only will a documentary about Vidal Sassoon be making its world premiere at the N.Y.C. festival, but a film about another legendary tastemaker is also set to debut. Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston, a portrait of designer Roy Halston Frowick, will premiere on April 30th. The film documents the glamorous life of Halston, who many call the first true celebrity designer, and includes interviews from some of his famous friends like Diane Von Furstenberg, Liza Minnelli, Anjelica Huston and Billy Joel. The house of Halston has been having a recent revival—the brand’s new president and chief creative officer Sarah Jessica Parker has been spotted in many of its designs—and we can’t wait to watch the story of the man who started it all come to life!

J. Crew Fall: ‘Edie Beale Goes to Girl Scouts Camp’

“This collection was little bit Edie Beale goes to Girl Scouts Camp. There’s an influence of the olives, clipboards, the utilitarian, funny hats, flowers stuck in the hair, fishbone braids and moccassins, but all paired with sequins!” Jenna Lyons, J. Crew’s uber stylish creative director told us of the inspiration behind her quirky, always-fun fall looks. From blazers covered in over 20 brooches, to layers that seem to have piled up over days, the message was clear—more is more! Lyons said the trick to pulling off this overdone look now is not to be afraid: “The most important trick is mixing textures—wear something shiny with something rumpled and broken down. If it’s fluffy, pair it with silky. Play with olives—if you have never worn olive and you are afraid, buy one piece (like cargo pants) and wear it with your favorite pinks!” Click through our gallery to see more of J. Crew’s camp-y meets romantic fall collection.

How Do I Fake Full Brows? Facebook Fan Q&A

Apr 2, 2010 @ 10:18 am

Marista Reyes asked: “I want to change the style of my eyebrows…I want the glamour look! Is there a product that could help me?”

The good news is that bigger, bushier, Brooke Shields-inspired brows are totally in—and enhancing your brows is much more risk-free than tweezing. To play with the dramatic look, pick up a brow powder or a matte eye shadow in a shade darker than your natural brows. Swab on with a soft brush to fill and shape your brow, then run a clean mascara wand through to distribute the powder evenly. (It makes the entire look realistic—trust us!) Be sure to follow your natural arch, and as a rule of thumb, only fill below, not above, your brow. If you’re really serious about revamping your look, consider investing in a brow kit like the Christi Harris Precision Brow Planing System ($39.95,  christiharrisbrows.com), which has a variety of specialized powders and brushes, plus a fibrous cream that helps thicken sparse brows. And keep the questions coming at facebook.com/InStyle.
