Cindy Crawford’s Trick for Looking Young

Mar 26, 2010 @ 4:50 pm

Former supermodel Cindy Crawford made an empire from her natural good looks—but having a bit of beauty savvy certainly didn’t hurt. “People always talk about plastic surgery and Botox, but I think the right hair color is what keeps a woman looking youthful,” Crawford told InStyle. “I like to have a a variety of tones for dimension so hair is bright, not flat.” She also mixes and matches her makeup to her own liking. “If you want your base to look real, sometimes you have to combine two colors. I don’t want people to say, ‘Wow, your makeup looks great!’ I’d prefer them to say, ‘You look great.’” To find out more on Crawford’s ageless beauty secrets, see the April issue of InStyle on newsstands now.

Tina Fey’s Destroyed Date Night Dress

Mar 26, 2010 @ 4:00 pm

The Date Night poster with Tina Fey sporting a gorgeous (and totally destroyed) navy dress made the fashionistas among us flinch—and we couldn’t help tracking down the inside scoop. The film’s costumer designer Marlene Stewart (who also made Madonna’s wedding dress for her 1985 nuptials with Sean Penn!) created the silk charmeuse number with a few requirements in mind. We wanted it classic and sexy, but Tina had to be able to move for the action scenes,” she told us. “Plus, the director [Shawn Levy] didn’t want black, so we found a shade that looked good on film.” 10 identical versions of the dress were crafted, then sent to the  wardrobe department’s “ager/dyer,” who was tasked with making them look realistically damaged. The one part of the Stewart’s job that wasn’t so complicated? “Showing off Tina’s legs,” she said. “She has great legs!Date Night, which also stars Steve Carell, hits theaters April 9th.

Miley Cyrus On Her SATC2 Cameo

Mar 26, 2010 @ 2:15 pm

We were there last night when Miley Cyrus and her co-star/boyfriend Liam Hemsworth made their official red carpet debut at the premiere of The Last Song in L.A. And we couldn’t help wonder: What’s next for the former tween queen? A blink-and-you-might-miss-it cameo in Sex and the City 2! “It takes place on a red carpet and all I do is pose. It was amazing—and I even got to keep the necklace!” Cyrus told us when we asked about the scene in which she and Samantha commit the ultimate fashion faux-pas: Wearing the same Matthew Williamson dress. Will Miley show off her posing prowess at the SATC2 premiere in May? “Yes, I can’t wait! “I’m so excited to see what the girls will be wearing,” she gushed. “Sarah Jessica Parker is my style icon!

Pretty Woman Turns 20: What’s Your Favorite Scene?

Mar 25, 2010 @ 4:26 pm

We’re sure, like us, you’ve seen Pretty Woman quite a few times. What’s not to love about the iconic Cinderella story starring Julia Roberts as Vivian Ward, a hooker with a heart of gold who gets swept away by her handsome Prince Charming, played by the dapper Richard Gere? The film that made Roberts a household name celebrates its 20th anniversary this week (we can’t believe it’s been that long either!) and we’re recalling a few of our favorite scenes. Vivian singing Prince’s “Kiss” in the bubble bath charmed us to no end, and the moment she stepped out in that stunning, off-the-shoulder red dress (thankfully the costume designer didn’t go with black!) remains forever etched in our memory. But ultimately our favorite part has to be when Vivian hits Rodeo Drive for a shopping spree, giddy with the prospect of designer clothes, shoes and the limitless credit card, and that wonderfully satisfying scene where she gives the snooty saleswoman a piece of her mind—no one messes with Vivian Ward! Watch that memorable scene after the jump and share your favorite Pretty Woman moments in the comments section below!

UPDATE: InStyle Fashion Director Hal Rubenstein recalls the pinnacle scene that made Roberts a movie star: “The scene in the red dress, when Gere opens the box with the necklace and shuts it just as Roberts reaches for it. Her laugh at that moment is how we knew she was a star!”

VS Model: How To Look Beach Sexy

Mar 25, 2010 @ 3:00 pm

Just in time for bikini season (and the latest crop from Victoria’s Secret swim), supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio gave us some pointers on how to look and feel your sexiest at the beach. “Find a swimsuit where you can mix and match the bottom and top sizes to get a perfect fit,” advises Ambrosio (check out the Bikini Mixer video of her fellow VS model Miranda Kerr, doing just that). “Always apply self-tanner before hitting the beach to give you a bit of color and glow without any negative effects,” says Ambrosio, who uses Victoria’s Secret Beach Sexy Sunkissed Bronze. “Keep your makeup natural with sun-kissed cheeks and a swipe of lip gloss—it’s all you need. I also like to put some leave-in conditioner when I’m out in the sun, but most importantly have fun! It’s all about enjoying yourself.” Click on to see Alessandra’s top five bikini picks for the season.

Katherine Heigl: Coming Soon To A Theater Near You

After six seasons as Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy, Katherine Heigl has finally confirmed that she’s checked out of Seattle Grace Hospital for good. While the outspoken actress says she’s done with the small screen for now, she will be coming soon (and often!) to a theater near you. And she’ll be joined by some pretty dreamy leading men. In June, the actress will star opposite Ashton Kutcher as a newlywed who uncovers her husband’s shady past in Killers, later this year she and Josh Duhamel play a pair of hapless singles who find themselves raising a baby in Life As We Know It, and it’s been reported she has five more films in the works. Dubbed the “sexiest, smartest, sassiest actress out there” by her Ugly Truth co-star Gerard Butler, Heigl proved that she’s got guts earlier this month when the strap of her Donna Karan dress broke as she took the stage to receive an award in Las Vegas. Instead of making a quick exit, she enlisted the help of Access Hollywood host Billy Bush to keep her frayed frock in place and launched into her acceptance speech. “I wasn’t going to stop the show and make everyone wait while somebody tries to find a way to pin it,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “I decided to just go for it.”
