Dakota and Kristen’s ’70s Style in The Runaways

Mar 17, 2010 @ 5:00 pm

In New York City to hype the release of their rock flick The Runaways, Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart (Fanning plays Cherie Currie, the all-girl band’s lead singer, while Stewart channels Joan Jett) told us how the vintage costumes helped transport them back to the days of the pre-punk era. “I’ve never played that kind of character before,” said Fanning, who sports school uniforms and denim jumpsuits in the film’s early scenes but later struts the stage in fishnets, platform heels and barely there lingerie. Her favorite fashion moment? “Putting on a corset and performing ‘Cherry Bomb’ was the best,” she says.  To channel Jett, Stewart underwent a real-life makeover, cutting off her tresses and dying her crop black. The actress’s resemblance to Jett’s teenage self resulted in a few surreal moments for the present day rock icon. “She really does look a lot like me in the film,” said Jett of Stewart’s dead-on portrayal. “Except I didn’t wear leather all the time. And I don’t think I ever wore leather pants!”

Fergie Taps Lady Gaga’s Stylist for Tour

Mar 17, 2010 @ 2:09 pm

Fergie has enlisted the help of Lady Gaga’s stylist, B. Åkerlund, to cultivate her looks for the Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D. tour—and the final result is out of this world! “I did a lot of research on what I thought would be an interesting vibe for Fergie and then incorporated all the things that I love into her costumes and made it all come alive,” Åkerlund told People.com. The Swedish stylist is responsible for Lady Gaga’s wild ensembles in her “Paparazzi” video, including a chrome bustier and a white embellished bodysuit that vaguely resembles Fergie’s Swarovski crystal-encrusted, robotic looking bodysuit by British designer Amy Thompson. “[That look] is made out of plastic with graphic print that gave the feeling of sci-fi meets street fashion,” said Åkerlund. There’s still time to see Fergie’s futuristic fashion—The E.N.D. tour plays through the end of summer.

Dakota Fanning Debuts Zac Posen for Target

Mar 17, 2010 @ 11:05 am

Dakota Fanning wore a Zac Posen for Target tuxedo jacket yesterday in N.Y.C. as she made the rounds to promote The Runaways, making her the first person to own a piece of the hotly anticipated collection! While Target shoppers won’t have the chance to snap up items from the line until it hits stores on April 25, stylist Jessica Paster scored the jacket (which will retail for a wallet-friendly $50) for her star client more than a month in advance. Fanning paired it with an oversize tee, lace skirt and leggings, finishing off the rocker chic look with a spiked bracelet and winged eyeliner. “A lot of people still think of me as being a little girl,” the 16-year-old actress said of playing wild child Cherie Currie in the R-rated film. Moviegoers may be surprised to see her in such a grown-up role, but there’s no question Fanning already has a sophisticated sense of style.

Lauren by Ralph Lauren’s Virtual Runway

Mar 17, 2010 @ 10:00 am

Lauren by Ralph Lauren is doing their very first runway show today for their spring collection, but not in the traditional format. Instead, they’re hosting an online presentation, complete with footage of models sashaying down the runway and a virtual audience of magazine editors, reports WWD. This is not the first time Ralph Lauren has chosen to show on the Web—they put on a virtual show for their Rugby brand in December. This time, Lauren is adding a social media element by allowing shoppers to immediately buy the looks shown as well as submit fashion questions to the editors in attendance.

Jennifer Aniston: Stuntwoman?

Mar 17, 2010 @ 9:26 am

When it came to playing a bail-jumping journalist in her new movie The Bounty Hunter, Jennifer Aniston insisted on keeping things real. The actress chose to wear actual handcuffs instead of props—even if it left her wrists black and blue with bruises! “They did a lot of their own [stunts]. She wears cuffs for half of the film. She wanted to wear the real ones to keep things authentic…her wrists were the color of my [navy blue] suit!” director Andy Tennant told us at the film’s N.Y.C. premiere last night.  Aniston’s bruised wrists didn’t deter costar Gerard Butler from getting in on the action. “I love doing my own stunts,” he said. “It keeps the adrenaline going and I love the action of it. You don’t know whether you’re going to die or pull it off. It’s great!”
