And the Oscar Goes To…

Mar 8, 2010 @ 11:11 am

Sandra Bullock! The star took home her first Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of real-life mom Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side. “I didn’t aspire to this. I was in awe of it. I admired it,” Bullock told reporters backstage.  Precious star Mo’Nique was equally stunned when she picked up her Best Supporting Actress Oscar. “I am a standup comedian who won an Oscar,” she said in the press room immediately following her win. Best Picture honors went to The Hurt Locker, which earned six Oscars total including Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow, the first woman ever to win the prize. “There’s no other way to describe it—it’s the moment of a lifetime!” she said in her acceptance speech. Crazy Heart‘s Jeff Bridges and Inglourious BasterdsChristoph Waltz rounded out the acting awards. Check Oscars.org for a complete list of last night’s winners.

Marchesa‘s Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig designed gowns for three nominees at last night’s Oscars ceremony. Best Actress nominee Gabourey Sidibe excitedly twirled for the cameras in her sapphire silk chiffon gown, while Best Actress winner Sandra Bullock wowed in a gold beaded column gown with a sheer, embroidered bodice. And Vera Farmiga, who wore a ruby bustier Marchesa dress a few days earlier at the Independent Spirit Awards, chose a ruffled fuchsia confection for her turn down the red carpet. “We couldn’t be more honored for the opportunity to have dressed such amazing actresses whose beauty and grace brought each design to life,” Chapman told us.
