Zoe Saldana’s Last Minute Oscar Prep

Mar 5, 2010 @ 2:00 pm

Over the past year Zoe Saldana has traveled from Moscow to Mexico promoting Star Trek and Avatar, jetted to Italy for Milan Fashion Week and journeyed to the Dominican Republic to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Now she’s back in L.A. with only a few days to get ready for the most glamorous night in Hollywood. “I’ve never been to the Oscars,” Saldana told us at yesterday’s Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon, where she received the Star to Watch award. “And all these designers have made dresses for me, but I haven’t picked one yet!” The pressure is on and time is running out, but Saldana has a secret weapon: “My stylist Petra Flannery knows me more than I know myself when it comes to fashion. She always puts me in something fits my personality and my mood, and she knows I go insane if I’m uncomfortable. Plus she wants me to look extra special,” Saldana said. “I’m pretty sure she’s going to find me the best dress!”

Balmain Revives the Pantsuit

Mar 5, 2010 @ 1:47 pm

Thanks to trend-setting design house Balmain (responsible for the rocker glam trend and influx of sequined minidresses on the racks), pantsuits will be big next season! At yesterday’s Fall 2010 runway show in Paris, Balmain sent its signature strong-shouldered jackets and slim, boot-cut pants down the runway—only this time, they matched! Designer Christophe Decarnin paired his glittering brocade power suits with soft and feminine tie-front blouses, leaving us with visions of high fashion power lunches and presentations. While Balmain’s ultra-sexy high-slit gowns won’t fly as work wear, this new take on the pantsuit could bring a major dose of style to the office.

Natalie Portman Looks Parisian Chic in Isabel Marant

Mar 5, 2010 @ 11:19 am

Fashion’s best kept secret, the effortlessly hip French label Isabel Marant, may be out thanks to Natalie Portman! The actress was spotted in one of our favorite looks from Marant’s Spring 2010 collection at last night’s RAAD Grey Goose party in L.A.. Portman traded the label’s cult fringed booties (they’ve been selling like mad ever since they hit Net-a-porter.com) for dressed-up patent leather pumps that added a perfect amount of sophistication to her bohemian glam tweed jacket and colorful minidress. Isabel Marant is bringing her enviable Parisian chic style stateside this month, opening a store in N.Y.C’s Soho district, and her fall collection is walking down the runway in Paris literally as we speak—we are waiting with baited breath for both!
