Emily Blunt on Young Victoria Corsets: “It was hell!”
Mar 1, 2010 @ 4:47 pmIn her role as the titular queen in The Young Victoria, Emily Blunt’s period piece costumes literally had her in a pinch. “It was hell,” the actress told People.com at last week’s 12th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards. “[Costume designer Sandy Powell] corseted me within an inch of my life. I said, ‘Well I can’t breathe, Sandy.’ And she said, ‘I don’t care.’” Blunt’s moments of discomfort paid off—that night she was honored with the Swarovski Award for her film achievements while Powell took home the prize for Excellence in Period Film. “It worked. It transported me to a whole other place,” said Blunt.
